J. Addison Students Reach New Heights at OFSAA Track & Field Championships

This spring, student-athletes from J. Addison School proudly represented our community at the highest levels of high school track and field competition in Ontario.

As members of the York Region Athletic Association (YRAA), 12 J. Addison students competed in a wide range of events, including the 100m, 400m, 100m hurdles, long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put, discus, javelin, and the always exciting 4x100m relay.

Their journey began on May 14 at the South/ West YRAA Regional Qualifiers, where they competed alongside more than 9,000 student-athletes from across York Region. Strong performances earned several athletes spots in the YRAA finals, including the senior girls’ 100m, 400m, 4x100m relay, high jump, discus, and shot put, as well as the senior boys’ long jump.

We are especially proud of Angela S., Joyce P., and Abriel G., whose outstanding results qualified them for the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Track & Field Championships in St. Catharines from June 4 to 6.

Competing against the province’s top student-athletes, Angela placed 10th overall in high jump, Joyce finished 17th in shot put, and Abriel earned 22nd place in the 400m event.

OFSAA is one of the largest high school sports associations in North America and represents the highest level of competition for secondary school athletes in Ontario.

Although our track and field season is short, this year’s experience demonstrated the power of stepping outside your comfort zone, discovering new passions, and embracing challenges. Our student-athletes balanced training and competition with academics, science fairs, final projects, graduation events, and exams—showing remarkable resilience, discipline, and time-management skills.

We extend our sincere thanks to our coaches, teachers, staff, parents, and families whose support made this season possible.

At J. Addison School, we believe athletics help students build confidence, character, and lifelong skills—both on and off the field.
