Congratulations to our senior boys’ basketball team for being the first Canadian team in history to win the Beachball Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. A huge thank you is extended to our coaches, support staff and parents/guardians for always positively guiding our basketball players on their quest to succeed on and off the court! Dear Parents/Guardians,

SNOW DAY PROTOCOL

J. Addison provides an important public service to our staff and students. Any closure has a significant impact on the school community.  Most cannot arrange alternate child care when schools are closed unexpectedly. In view of this, the School will not be closed due to snow or other weather conditions unless conditions reach the level of civic emergency (a very rare occurrence) or there is damage or other circumstances (e.g. power outage) at J. Addison School that makes it impossible to operate safely. 

During snow days, it is common for police and other authorities to advise citizens to avoid unnecessary travel.  These advisories do not constitute direction to close pubic facilities and should not be interpreted as school closure.

Staff, students and parents should assume that schools will be open.  Should it become necessary to close the School, that decision will be made as early as possible, and no later than 6:30AM in the morning. Closures will be announced via and email as directed by the Principal.   However, it is understood that some students travel to school in ways that may not be possible to travel safe on a snow day.  Therefore, no student will be penalized for lack of attendance.  Student and staff safety is the first priority for the School.

Parents/Guardians are responsible for their children’s safe travel to School on a snow day. If, for any reason, a parent/guardian feels that a child cannot travel safely to school, they should make other arrangements.  School will be kept open to provide the option of attendance for all, but the decision to attend the School is the responsibility of each family.

Staff attendance is expected during snow days when weather conditions have improved and it is safe to drive. For example: At 8:00 AM, driving may be hazardous due to snow; but at 10:00 AM, conditions may have improved to the point that driving to school is fine. Staff will not be penalized for arriving to school late, but if staff are absent for the day, then it will be recorded as an absence day. As it will not be a regular school day, staff may be assigned to provide assistance with other school programs. Teachers who cannot make it to school should go online.

J. Addison School is closed from December 24^th, 2022 to January 8^th, 2023 inclusive for the holidays. December 23^rd, 2022 is a PA Day. For urgent matters during the winter holiday break, please contact the dorm hotline at 416-435-1835. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

Emergency Weather Day – Schools Closed December 23

Due to emergency weather conditions, J. Addison School will be closed on Friday, December 23, 2022.

Due to inclement weather, the elementary holiday talent show has been postponed to Wednesday, December 21, 2022 from 4 to 5 PM. Please watch the live stream of the event using the link here.

A special weather statement has been put in place for Thursday, December 15th, 2022.

There may be rare occasions when emergency weather conditions occur and we may need to close our school. Closures will be considered when facilities may not be safe for students and staff members to attend school for the full day. This may include events that significantly limit school operations such as a significant snowfall or ice storm that restricts access to the school site, causes widespread or prolonged power failures or downs power lines.

In keeping with our current practice, we will continue to keep our schools open as much as possible. However, it is important that families have alternate child care arrangements planned for the rare occasions when schools may be closed. Before and after care programs will also not operate if schools are closed. Please ensure that you take the time to make plans in the event of an emergency school closure.

Decisions about school closures will be made as early as possible and no later than 6 AM. Please check our school website after 6 AM for updates.
