Solar Eclipse Early Dismissal (April 8th) Apr 2, 2024

Please note that due to the concern of safety for our students on Monday, April 8th, 2024 regarding the total solar eclipse we will be dismissing students early.

It has been noted this solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024, will put parts of Ontario into temporary darkness.  Further, looking directly at the sun without appropriate protection, can lead to serious eyesight loss both partial and complete.

It is for these safety reasons that J Addison will dismiss all students at 12:00 pm.  Elementary students will have lunch from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm.  Parents will be required to pick up their children by 12:00 pm sharp.

High school students will also be dismissed at 12:00 pm.  They are offered the opportunity to take part in lunch at 12:00 pm but must leave the school by 1:00 pm at the very latest.

It is imperative that all elementary students be picked up by 12:00 pm and all High School students by 1:00 pm latest.  Should you have any concerns that you may not be able to pick up your child at this time, it may be in their best interest to remain at home this day.  Please note that should this option be your choice, a notification of your child’s absence must be sent to the school prior to the school day commencing.

As a precaution, all Dorm students will remain indoors and students will be instructed to remain away from windows.

It is important to note that driving during this time may also pose a risk as you may inadvertently look at the sun.  For more information about the Total Solar Eclipse, including how to view it safely, please review information from the Canadian Association of Optometrists.
